Asana: Standing Balances: Work on your balance with any pose from Vrksasana (Tree Pose) to Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (Extended Hand to Big Toe Pose). Play while you are brushing your teeth, washing dishes, or standing in line at the coffee shop! The Planet: Beautify the area around your house and in your neighborhood. Sweep the sidewalk, pick up trash, and even clean up the leaves that are clogging the drains. Asana: Quad Stretches! Take time each day to stretch out your these big muscles on the front of your thighs. Standing up hold the foot behind you drawing the heel into the hip. You can also try from a lunge, with a twist from pigeon pose , laying on your belly, and putting that foot against the wall. Perhaps take up a regular practice of Supta Virasana and variations. I truly believe it is a key to feeling better in our bodies and being more grounded on the earth! The Planet: It’s Earth Month! What activities are happening in your city? Find out and participate. Asana: Practice “Dolphin Dog” and “Dolphin Stand”. Clasp hands and place your elbows on the floor shoulder width apart. Lift the knees and hips like Downward Dog Pose. Build strength by holding the pose longer and lifting one leg at a time up. Go near a wall and kick up to Dolphin Stand. Continue to build strength and open shoulders in Dolphin Stand by lowering your head to the ground then lifting up again. The Planet: Get rid of all household cleaning products that contain toxins and synthetics. You can make natural cleaning products with ingredients such as vinegar, baking soda, and tea tree oil. Asana: Practice Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand). Begin a daily practice of this pose and begin building your capacity to hold it. Many in the community are already holding the pose 1 minute. We are working up to 2:12 this year. Not practicing this pose yet? Not to worry, get more comfortable holding your own weight by turning your downward dog on it’s side! Come into downward dog with your feet at the wall, walk your hands closer to the wall and step one foot up the wall, then the other.
